Born in Tours, France
1948
Takes up photography after attending École du Louvre and École des Arts Appliqués.
1953
Begins experimenting with photograms. He establishes regular contacts with experimental photographers throughout Europe, including Otto Steinert.  Steinert, a photographer and theorician, encourages Catherineau to continue his abstract exploration. He receives his first exhibit the same year
1954
Took part in 9th Salon National de la Photographie in Paris. Published in Photo-Cinéma Magazine
1956
Solo Exhibition in Lille.  Published in Photography of the World, Ciné-Photo Magazine and Clic.
1957
Begins working with double-exposures and collages. Exhibited in the Hedendaagse Fotografie show in Kortrijk, Belgium.
1958
Started his series of portraits and self-portraits
1959
Exhibited work at the International Kunstsalon. Published in the year’s Photography in London and in Camera (USA).
1960
Mixes photography collages and gouache.
1961
Published in two histories of photography and many journals.
1962
Dies in Paris
